Favorite qualitative research technique: “Collages! I started making collages when I was a girl. After college, I began using collage techniques for personal visioning. I love assigning collages as pre-group homework and incorporating them into teambuilding sessions. The stories they tell always fascinate me.”
Most fascinating project: “In-home interviews conducted in the deep-south with individuals below the poverty level. One respondent believed I was an Angel of God (thank you, cash incentives!). One fiercely protective dog bit a hole right through my khakis (fortunately he didn’t draw blood). And one man invited me to marry into a community of North Carolina Mountainfolk. Fascinating findings … and unforgettable experiences!”
A memorable moment: “I’ll never forget one particular focus group with adolescent boys. Whenever I turned my back on the group to jot something down on the easel, the boys laughed ridiculously loud. Turned out one boy was aiming a laser pointer at my butt each time. And since I was wearing white slacks, it was clearly more then they could handle at their age. They were devilishly cute those boys … but I had to take the laser pointer away once I knew about the prank!”
